Welcome: You Belong Here
Whether you’re exploring school options or already part of our community — we’re so glad you’re here.
Lazear Charter Academy is a free public TK–8 charter school serving students from ages 4 to 13 in Oakland’s historic Fruitvale neighborhood.
Lazear has deep roots in the Fruitvale and Jingletown neighborhoods, where generations of families have built a legacy of resilience, activism, and educational excellence. Born from Oakland’s small schools movement, Lazear was reimagined by families and educators who knew that a one-size-fits-all model wasn’t good enough — and who worked together to create something better.
Today, we carry that legacy forward by empowering every student to rise with pride, learn with purpose, and lead with heart.
We believe students are not just preparing for high school — they’re preparing to challenge inequity, speak up for justice, and lead their communities. We teach with love, hold high expectations, and partner deeply with families to support each child’s full potential — academically, socially, and emotionally.
At Lazear, education is a tool for transformation. And with families as our partners, we're building a future filled with opportunity, choice, and possibility.
